Head of Pharmaceuticals – Safic-Alcan España
Esther Vilanova joined Safic-Alcan in April 1996 and has been leading the Pharmaceuticals division of Safic-Alcan España since 2018. Her career reflects long-term commitment, deep sector expertise and a strong belief in the value of patience and trust in the pharmaceutical industry.
Originally trained in pharmacy and nutrition, Esther began her professional journey in a laboratory before discovering technical sales within chemical distribution. Curious about a new professional path, she joined what was then known as Isisa—now part of the Safic-Alcan Group—and gradually built a career at the crossroads of science, commercial development and long-term partnerships.
Building long-term value in pharmaceuticals
Over more than 25 years, Esther has witnessed and contributed to the transformation of both her department and the Group. The pharmaceutical business in Spain has grown significantly during this period, supported by technological evolution, closer collaboration with customers and a strong focus on regulatory and technical excellence.
Today, Esther leads a team of seven people and encourages a long-term mindset, essential in an industry where product approvals and market launches can take many years.
Leading through change
Esther particularly values the support and trust she has received throughout her career, especially during challenging periods such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Adapting to new ways of working while supporting an essential industry required resilience, collaboration and strong leadership.
While remote work is now part of daily life, Esther still enjoys coming to the office, appreciating the focus and connection it brings. For her, pharmaceuticals remain the most meaningful of all industries Safic-Alcan serves.
